How are the remedies obtained and prepared?

Remedies are obtained from mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms. Each remedy is subjected to a specialised refining process to produce a ‘potency’ from the source. This process involves both dilution and physical grinding or agitation. Using this method poisonous and inert substances are transformed into safe but powerful healing agents.

How do homeopaths know the effects of the various remedies. How are they tested?

Remedies are first tested or ‘proved’ on volunteers. This is done using ‘double blind’ conditions so that no ‘prover’ knows the name of the remedy that is being ‘proved’ or tested. The remedy is given to many people who then note down the psychological and physical changes that occur during the hours, days and weeks that follow. After collating and comparing the effects of the proving a complex symptom picture is gradually built up. In this way, the homeopathic materia medica is based, not on speculation, but on the actual pychological and physical effects of the remedies on human beings. (No animal testing is used or needed.)

Homeopathic remedies, properly prescribed, are safe and can also be given to pregnant women, babies and children. In fact pregnancy and childhood are excellent times to treat, as the patients’ constitution is strengthened and immunity to disease increased
